Pacucoa’s preliminary visit: The Work Towards Academic Excellence Continues

An eight-member team of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission (PACUCOA) accreditors completed their preliminary visit to St. Paul University Iloilo. The visit on September 22-24, 2014, was done for the accreditation of SPUI’s four programs: Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in English and Theater Arts, and Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management. Chaired by Dr. Servillano Marquez, the PACUCOA team met with SPUI Administrators and with the key academic and non-academic staff involved in the four programs being assessed.

The PACUCOA team is composed of Dr. Servillano Marquez as chair, Engr. Vinci Villaseñor, Dr. Supachai Basit, Dr. Grace Alcala, Dr. Maria Cecilia Cuison, Ms. Elizabeth Malabanan, Engr. Flordeliza Villaseñor, and Dr. Corazon Quintana.

On the last day of its visit, the PACUCOA team gave its initial observations and pointed out some areas where SPUI can strengthen the programs under accreditation. The major areas mostly cited are the alignment of the University’s vision-mission-goals with the objectives of the four programs, developing professional linkages, and strengthening both academic and organizational research.

The formal report of the team will be presented to the University after it is reviewed by the PACUCOA Board.

Dean Jieza Napone of the College of Arts and Sciences, facilitated and emceed the final meeting between the PACUCOA team and the Paulinian community.

After this PACUCOA visit, the task of bringing the four programs on the track of excellence begins.
