BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING
Started in 1970

The BSN Program is committed to the holistic and dynamic formation of a caring and competent Christian Filipino nurse. It aims to develop

1.  CHRISTIAN NURSES, who by their very being and acting, like Paul and Mary, witness to a life anchored on the love of Christ: “Caristas Christi Urget Nos. “;
2.  TOTAL PERSONS, who, believing in their innate God-given dignity and worth, continuously strive to fully develop themselves in every ways as they reach out in service, especially to the most deprived;
3.  COMPASSIONATE, COMPETENT CARE-GIVERS, who are able to think creatively and critically in the application of the nursing process, as they deliver various levels of care involving clients across the life span at any given setting;
4.  SELF-DIRECTED FILIPINOS, who take pride in their Filipino cultural-heritage and national identity; and
5.  LEADERS, who are aware and responsive to the times and are able to initiate and support innovative efforts contributory to national global concerns.

 

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING – MUSIC/ARTS THERAPY TRACK
Started in 2005

This is a 9-semester program centered on a 2-fold concentration: (1) the formation of a professional nurse towards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree; and (2), the acquisition of music and art competencies as a nursing intervention utilized in the healing profession.

The formal use of art and musical skills, knowledge, and attitudes, especially voice, piano, and guitar, as an alternative Nursing intervention shall be part of the competencies to be developed in the students who are already inclined to these talents.  These competencies will provide the graduates with an edge over her Asian colleagues as the preferred professional nurse in local, national and global communities.

At the end of the four and a half years, the student then becomes qualified to take the Nursing Licensure Examinations given by the Professional Regulation Commission and receives a special certificate for the acquisition of Music and Art skills in Nursing Care.

It aims to:

a.  integrate Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence by blending the science and art in Nursing education;
b.  use music to improve people’s lives by assisting them in making positive life changes;
c.  benefit from music as a major therapeutic intervention;
d.  develop competence in the organized use of music in caring -0 an innovation in the Nursing profession.

 

MASTER OF ARTS IN NURSING
Started in 1997

a.  Major in Community Health Nursing
b.  Major in Medical-Surgical Nursing
c.  Major in Nursing Service Administration

The graduate School of Nursing Program adheres to the philosophy and objectives of the College of Nursing program, the Vision-Mission of St. Paul University Iloilo and the overall objectives of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

It is designed to improve the quality of the profession and aims to develop integrated, committed and competent leaders responsible for realizing the role of Nursing as a vital component of any country’s health system.  More especially, the program seeks to prepare the students to function as specialists in the field of Nursing education and service.

Graduate students are expected to:

a.  utilize the nursing process as a problem-solving tool for quality patient care;
b.  identify and develop personal gifts and talents that one possesses in order to further the profession of nursing in the Philippines;
c.  demonstrate entry competence for specialization in the fields of Medical Surgical Nursing, Community Health Nursing and Nursing Administration;
d.  develop an independent learning attitude and discipline in one’s field of specialization;
e.  utilize research in investigating and enriching the theoretical framework of nursing and improving nursing education and practice;
f.  enhance interest and skill in Nursing research and related background studies;
g.  develop competent and competitive skills to advocate a continuous personal and professional growth in herself of himself and others;
h.  develop teaching strategies and mentoring skills translated from base knowledge to benefit students and other learning individuals;
i.  develop leadership and managerial skills in education, service and effective collaboration with other professionals;
j.  propagate advocacy for higher Nursing education;
k.  foster the spirit of globalization in nursing excellence;
l.  integrate Christian value systems in the acquisition of advance knowledge and health care application;
m.  enhance the spirit of community service with preference to the less fortunate of society.
