Theater and Tribute: an Afternoon for CAS – St. Paul University Iloilo

Last March 14 at 4 in the afternoon, the College of Arts and Sciences had the afternoon filled with memorable moments for all members of the Paulinian family to reminisce. The whole afternoon was divided into two events that were participated by the Paulinian students from four programs: AB English and Theater Arts, BS Biology, AB Mass Communication, and BS Psychology, and by the faculty from the different CAS departments.

The first part of the afternoon started with the Kiddie Theater, a production of the AB English and Theater Arts and directed by Mrs. Jieza Napone, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Kiddie Theater was witnessed by parents, college Paulinians and pupils from St. Paul University Laboratory School which has kindergarten 1 to 2, and grades 1 to 3. The Marian Theater was filled with joyous noise as the pupils had a fun learning experience through the colorful characters that walked the stage. The children-audience were taught about the healthy foods that they should eat, the proper way of using the utensils, the numerous parts of the body, and the proper spelling of many words. The pupils also enjoyed the many songs and dances performed by the ABETA actors. The joy was so infectious that kids themselves danced and sang. One of the most memorable parts of the play was the puppet show. Before the play ended, the students were taught how to say please, thank you and welcome.

A few minutes after the Kiddie Theater, under the directorship of Mrs. Jieza Napone, the College of Arts and Sciences presented a vaudeville show entitled, “CASadya sa CAS: A Tribute.” The vaudeville presentation was a show that gave tribute to the teachers and students of the College of Arts and Sciences for their contribution in making the college productive, inspiring, and efficient. The vaudeville was filled with numerous singing numbers, poetry interpretation, and contemporary and modern dancing. These presentations were participated by students, teachers, and some alumni. In the words of the Mrs. Napone, “We have scientists, sociologists, psychologists, statisticians, researchers, dancers, actors, public speakers—the brightest torches that will light the future aflame with their passion—all working together. And despite our differences, …we are united in purpose. We are singular. We are one.”
