February 28, 2018, SPUI CTL. The management team of St Paul University Iloilo held a one-day meeting on February 28, 2018, to discuss the accomplishments, gaps, and proposals of each College and Department in the Key Result Areas of Value-Innovated Programs and Services (KRA-3) and Good Governance and Stewardship (KRA-4). All Colleges, Departments, and Units gave a consensus that the Paulinian identity at SPUI is 100% identified, with stakeholders naming the community engagements of SPUI and the 5C’s (Christ-centeredness, charity [caritas], commission, community, and charism) as the anchor of this identity. A cursory look at the samples of the the poster design of students below are indicative of how this identity has been embraced by one of the newest members of the SPUI academic community, the Grade 11 and 12 students.
However, despite it being 100% identified, the management team acknowledges that the job is far from over as the embodiment of these values is only 80% communicated, with some Colleges like the College of Physical Therapy, calling for the integration of ethics and spirituality in their curriculum so students will not forget the foundation of their Paulinian education. The Student Services Department shares its active involvement with the Archdiocese of Jaro (Youth Commission) in order to strengthen the servant leadership training of Paulinian student leaders and keep them abreast of what the other youth leaders in the archdiocese develop and use their leadership skills for the community. The Guidance Office, on the other hand, presents some of the concerns of the students that have bearing on how this Paulinian identity is communicated and shared.
In other areas of KRA-3 that deal with the full implementation of technology-integrated academic program and the compliance with CHED/DEPEd and ASEAN standards as well as those of the accrediting bodies, SPUI is in the process of updating its technological infrastucture and systems as well as training key personnel and faculty to keep them abreast of these standards. The use of Google classrooms, Edmodo, and other learning sites are already implemented by faculty members, specially from the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE).
In the area of Good Governance and Stewardship (KRA-4), all Colleges, Departments, and Units give promising results in terms of motivating the workforce, maintaining financial sustainability and strengthening accountability, and ensuring the sustainability and continuity of SPUI advocacies. Here KRA 4 ties in very neatly with the Paulinian identity as it strives to strengthen its pillars: community extension services, spirituality, and advocacies.
SPUI President, Sr. Mila, SPC thanked everyone for realizing the strategic goals that each College, Department, and Unit has identified during the joint strategic planning in July 2017 conducted with the other SPC schools in Barotac Nuevo and Barotac Viejo. The next strategic planning for Academic Year 2018-2019 will be held in the summer of 2018.
