Three “The Paulinian” (TP) staffers were named “most promising “writers and photojournalist during the Annual Basic Journalism Seminar –workshop sponsored by the Philippine Information Agency VI held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, July 25-27, 2012.
Rose Kareen Defensor, TP’s editor-in-chief and Kristina Reanna Garcia, TP’s new recruit for this year were named “Most Promising” Editorial Writer in Hiligaynon and English respectively, while Daven Jone Laquian, TP’s photojournalist was acclaimed, “ Most Promising” Photojournalist , with his entry, “ The Booming Iloilo”.
The activity which was a gathering of more or less two hundred campus papers and advisers in the region is an annual activity of PIA 6 which tackles emerging journalism forms such that of print, broadcast, as well as that of the internet or social media to enhance the basic skills, journalistic competence and paper management skills among the participants. This year’s theme is “ Convergence Journalism”, which is in partnership with Smart Communications.
The three-day confab, among others, include lectures in principles of development communication, copy editing and headlining, reform agenda of the Aquino administration, news and features, sports writing, photojournalism, page design, and social media.
The participants were with their co-staff members, Jorge Cañoneo, Louisa Yansa and Roxanne Prieto of “The Paulinian” publication, the official student publication of the St. Paul University Iloilo.
