St. Paul University Iloilo Celebrates 75th Grand Alumni Homecoming: Rekindling the Past, Solidifying the Present, and Owning the Future

Today marks a historic milestone as St. Paul University Iloilo (SPUI) celebrates its 75th Grand Alumni Homecoming with the theme, “Rekindling the Past, Solidifying the Present, and Owning the Future Through One God, One Country, One Paulinian Family at 75.” This momentous event brings together Paulinians from all over the world to honor their rich heritage and strengthen the bonds that unite them as one Paulinian family.

The celebration was officially opened with a heartfelt prayer led by Sr. Mercedes Bacaoco, SPC, Vice President of Christian Formation. She prayed for the welfare of the Paulinian community and asked for blessings for all Paulinians.Mr. Jaresh Ng, President of the St. Paul University Iloilo Alumni Association, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the grandeur of the 75th homecoming. “Today is a special day for each Paulinian,” he declared, describing this as the grandest and most vibrant celebration yet. His words encapsulated the spirit of unity and nostalgia, reflecting on the shared journey of the Paulinians through the years.

University President Sr. Teresita Baricaua, SPC, expressed her gratitude to God for His bountiful blessings and acknowledged everyone who played a role in making the launching event possible, including Mr. Jaresh Ng, the event organizers, and SM Malls for providing the venue. “Each story of success stands as a beacon of hope,” she stated, highlighting the achievements of Paulinian alumni who have stayed true to their values. She urged everyone to cherish the principles that define them as Paulinians and to carry this legacy forward for future generations.

The SPUI Cultural Club delighted the audience with a special performance, adding a touch of artistry and cultural pride to the event.Mr. Jaresh Ng also teased the unveiling of the new branding logo for SPUI’s diamond year, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the university. He announced upcoming events, including the “One Paulinian Walk” on January 12 and the highlight of the homecoming on January 17 at the Iloilo Convention Center, followed by a glamorous Gatsby Gala.

The celebration recognized Paulinian achievers, showcasing their contributions and successes. Mr. Leonard Pineda, a CASE professor, acknowledged the pioneering students of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE) through a video presentation that underscored the college’s focus on excellence and its significant impact on students’ lives.

Ms. Ellaine Sobrevega, Dean of the College of Business, Information and Technology (CBIT), highlighted the college’s achievements and goals in her presentation, reflecting its commitment to innovation and educational excellence.

The College of Hospitality Management, Tourism, and Nutrition (CHTN) was also showcased, with its dean, Dr. Elsie Tedoco emphasizing the college’s dedication to empowering students to achieve their dreams. A promotional video further highlighted CHTN’s accomplishments and inspiring journey.

The College of Nursing, represented by Dean Ms. Dulce Ma. S. Tilos, MSN, RN, showcased its offerings and achievements through a video presentation. The College of Rehabilitation Sciences represented by Miss Emery Gallinero, Faculty and Miss Marlene Hervias, Asst. Principal of the Basic Education Department also presented their milestones and contributions, reflecting on their continuous pursuit for excellence.

Dr. Sharon Ann Mendoza, Vice President of Academic Affairs, extended her deepest gratitude to the alumni. She honored those who have passed on and those who continue to contribute to SPUI’s legacy, reaffirming the university’s commitment to its mission and vision. “As long as SPUI remains standing, we will continue to open its doors to produce successful individuals all over the world,” she said, highlighting the institution’s role in shaping future leaders.

The program concluded with the unveiling of the SPUI exhibit, featuring Ilonggo pride and Paulinian alumnus son, Mr. Jed Madela, who participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mr. Jaresh Ng and Sr. Teresita Baricaua, SPC. Sr. Mercedes Bacaoco, SPC, Vice President of Christian Formation led the closing prayer, leaving attendees with a sense of unity, gratitude, and hope.

St. Paul University Iloilo’s 75th Grand Alumni Homecoming Launch was not just a celebration of past achievements but also a commitment to embracing the values that have shaped every Paulinian. It was a powerful reminder of the collective journey and a call to look forward with hope and determination toward the future.
