E-LEARNING CENTER at SPUI Library

Responding to the challenges of higher education in the 21st century, the St. Paul University Iloilo Library launched the Esperanza Trinidad E-Learning Center on May 23, 2016. The E-Learning Center was made possible through the generous donation of the family of the late Esperanza Trinidad, a nursing alumna and her Nursing Class ’66 – the Marielites. The initial donation of US$2,500 by the family of the late Esperanza Trinidad was matched by her classmates enlarging the donation to US$5,000. With this amount, the head librarian of SPUI, Mrs. Josephine Mendoza, MSLS, RL, worked toward establishing an E-Learning Center to suit the present needs and information seeking behaviour of the researchers. According to her, “In this information age, the aim of the library is to deliver quality service and materials to its clients in all formats” print, non-print, and electronic.” This same vision was shared by then SPUI President Carol S. Agravante, SPC. Both Sr. Carol and Mrs. Fernandez, work toward the fulfilment of this vision.

On May 23, 2016, the Esperanza Trinidad E-Learning Center was formally launched attended by the family of the late Esperanza Trinidad, the representatives of the Nursing Class ’66, the Marielites, the members of the Board of Directors of SPUI Alumni Association, and the SPUI academic community.

ESPERANZA TRINIDAD E-LEARNING CENTER carries 25 latest editions of nursing books which can also be used by PT and other medical and allied health related researchers. Students and researchers can now access the electronic materials right from their own comfort zones 24/7 through their iPhones, iPods, laptops, and PC’s. Research work becomes easy and manageable. Mrs. Fernandez states that, “Aside from these benefits, the ESPERANZA TRINIDAD E-LEARNING CENTER is a big boost to SPUI in general and for the library in particular in meeting the CHED and accreditation requirements of having 20% of the total library holdings in the form of electronic format. All we need is to add more titles to the Center as the e-books are perpetual.”

The SPUI Library partnered with CE-Logic, Inc. to build the electronic collection of the Center and provide support for the program. The CE-Logic also provided the Center with two desk top computers. The launching activity was also sponsored by CE-Logic by providing the signage and snacks for the event.
