Filipino Women Portrayed on Stage

On March 22 at the Marian Theater, the College of Arts and Sciences, together with the Bachelor of Arts in English and Theater Arts (ABETA) and the Gender and Development Office, jointly celebrated Women’s Month by staging “The Dancers”, a one-act play, by Alberto S. Florentino.

The play is about a typical underprivileged Filipino family having a hard time making ends meet. This family showed the audience how women in some Filipino families are treated. It emphasizes the struggles of a family and how its members try to live normally despite the harshness of poverty.

After the play, Ms. Ronela Jundos, Gender and Development Coordinator, facilitated an open forum which was the venue for students to express their thoughts about the current plight of women in their community, country, and the world.

The director of the play was Mrs. Jieza J. Napone; House Manager, Karah Nillasca; Stage Manager, Vanessa Rañola; Props Managers, Mia Grace Gradiola and Mary Claire Tubola; Lights Director, Rizzah Mae Subang; Sounds Director, Engr. Jason Enterola; and Make-up Artist, Janelle Torrecampo.
